I was listening to the song 'Something Just like This' by Coldplay and I thought that it would be an awsome song for end credits to a short film on ADHD. I then immediatly started writing notes on ADHD reserch websites and key story moments. Unfornutaly I was unable to get a team of classmates on board to help with pre-production and post-production but I was able to get people from my drama class to help with the acting. So I then became the script-writer, Concept artist, Director, D.O.P, Main Actor and The Editor. I had my boyfriends dad teach me how to us After effects and was able to add some basic animation to me film. I knew it wasn't perfect but I was proud of what I had accomplished in that time and thrilled to had finally got my hands dirty and expanded my knowledge.
I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 8 years old and it has presented some difficult challenges on the way in terms of my mental health. However I was determind to make this film, for several reasons. 1) I wanted to know what that feeling was when you put your soul into a piece of work and show it to the world. 2) It was my way of expecting that I am different from others and that I am not ashamed of it. 3) it allowed my to show the people I cared about what I struggle in a way they could sympeths.
This short film changed my world, and it will always be my proudest accomplishment. after I made it my media studies teacher suggested this Film festival to me. I submitted it and tired not to get my hopes up, when I recieved this Highly Commended award. I was over the moon and sealed the deal for what my pathway was to be. I even had a student come up to me and say that they had been recently Diagnosed with ADHD and that they found that they could relate to my story, and that regonition from an unknown student made it extra special.
