The Cinema

Updated: Sep 20, 2021

When I was little, during the school break. My older sibling, my dad, and I would go to the movies after having lunch with my Aunty. I would be that kid who would know and quote every kid's animated film that had came out that holiday. I remember the loud jolts the bass you send through my heart, like watching the final firework go off on new years day. My mouth stretching from ear to ear with excitement. My mind hypnotised by the colours while being emotionally invested in the character's growth. Coming out of the movie theatre would be like walking out of the closet and leaving the wonderful world of Narnia behind as just a memory. The same excitement came back to me when I went to media studies and learned that I could create that same feeling for other people, create worlds of escapism. For me, the moment when I decided this was what I wanted to be was when I helped a friend with a film competition, "the Roxy film fest". I saw my face on the Roxy cinema screen; being in that audience with other people seeing something I had helped gave me a purpose.
